Entertainment was non-stop and included live bands, rides, games, a classic car show, miniature train rides, karaoke, fireworks, dancers and various other performers. It was so much fun that their husbands wanted to be included in the next one. First time Home Days visitor Bryan McCarthy said his son recently moved to Independence. "Now, we turn any Independence event into a family function. It's a friendly and welcoming city."

Judges, including Mayor Anthony Togliatti, heard 30 auditions from residents before narrowing it down to 12 contestants for the showcase on the bandstand. The two-day festival, which typically takes place on Public Square, was one of the many casualties of the coronavirus pandemic last year. Faced with the uncertainties of the pandemic, organizers -- working months in advance -- opted for the wide-open spaces of the city’s Elmwood Park for this year’s event. INDEPENDENCE, Ohio --This weekend’s 104th annual Home Days celebration -- featuring endless entertainment of nearly every type -- proved to be a major success at its new venue. Games and activities were offered for kids and teens, including karaoke, a traveling zoo, free pony rides, an egg toss and amusement park rides. Nonetheless, many Home Days highlights involved typical activities.

The highlight of Saturday's festivities was the Home Days parade, in which Mayor Togliatti, City Council members and several other Independence groups marched down Brecksville Road to celebrate the city. The Independence Police and Fire departments were also present for meet-and-greets with community members. On Saturday, the police gave a K-9 demonstration in the street. Nick Dimarco, who has lived in Independence for 14 years, said, "My favorite part is the food variety." Dimarco said compared to previous years, this year's Home Days seemed to draw a larger crowd. Several vendors set up for the two-day event, most of which were food related. Verso restaurant, Chik-Fil-A, Barrio, B & M BBQ, Greek Gyros and Euclid Beach Custard were only some of the food options.

Every Friday , Mayor Kurtz sends out a Weekly Update with news and information from around the city . Throughout the day on Friday and Saturday, the Independence Art Guild held an art show, presenting original photos, paintings, drawings and sculptures by artists from Independence and many adjoining suburbs. This event takes place once a year at the Home Days celebration. The event kicked off on Friday with Independence's first annual "Indy's Got Talent" show.
Following the excitement, guests slaked their thirst at the Kiwanis Wine and Beer Garden and feasted on the full complement of festival foods. Attached to the tree trunks and on a changing digital projector in the middle of Brecksville Road were "Wanted" signs. These signs had pictures of Independence residents with captions created by the submitter. Once at Home Days, the submitter had to find their poster, take a picture of it, and show it to the information booth to be entered into a drawing for $100 worth of gift cards.
