INDEPENDENCE, Ohio --This weekend’s 104th annual Home Days celebration -- featuring endless entertainment of nearly every type -- proved to be a major success at its new venue. The Home Days celebration took place on Brecksville Road in the middle of the city's historic square.

The highlight of Saturday's festivities was the Home Days parade, in which Mayor Togliatti, City Council members and several other Independence groups marched down Brecksville Road to celebrate the city. The Independence Police and Fire departments were also present for meet-and-greets with community members. On Saturday, the police gave a K-9 demonstration in the street. Nick Dimarco, who has lived in Independence for 14 years, said, "My favorite part is the food variety." Dimarco said compared to previous years, this year's Home Days seemed to draw a larger crowd. Several vendors set up for the two-day event, most of which were food related. Verso restaurant, Chik-Fil-A, Barrio, B & M BBQ, Greek Gyros and Euclid Beach Custard were only some of the food options.

Throughout the day on Friday and Saturday, the Independence Art Guild held an art show, presenting original photos, paintings, drawings and sculptures by artists from Independence and many adjoining suburbs. This event takes place once a year at the Home Days celebration. The event kicked off on Friday with Independence's first annual "Indy's Got Talent" show.
Following the excitement, guests slaked their thirst at the Kiwanis Wine and Beer Garden and feasted on the full complement of festival foods. Attached to the tree trunks and on a changing digital projector in the middle of Brecksville Road were "Wanted" signs. These signs had pictures of Independence residents with captions created by the submitter. Once at Home Days, the submitter had to find their poster, take a picture of it, and show it to the information booth to be entered into a drawing for $100 worth of gift cards.
